Prisoners in high-profile cases such as Bulger’s are often kept in the unit for their protection or for the protection of other inmates. The unit holds up to 117 prisoners.
If Bulger, who is being held without bail, had a chance to talk to former partners in crime Stephen “The Rifleman” Flemmi and Frank “Cadillac Frank” Salemme, he might learn what to expect. Both men spent more than a few nights in Unit G following their captures back in 1995.
