Adults and older people also get into the act by "shooting in the rusty hinges," a water aerobics class held by the Athens-Clarke Department of Leisure Services at the Memorial Park pool.
"It offers an aerobic workout with low impact, if your joints are more sensitive or if you have problems with arthritis," said John McKinney, director of Memorial Park installation. "It's less impact than doing something about the land."
Water helps support the weight of a person, while high-impact aerobics on the ground - such as running, jumping jacks and "anything where you jump around a lot" - is not possible for everyone, said McKinney.
