Urban County Council approved a city budget for next fiscal year that includes taking on $ 400 000 of new debt, and Mayor Jim Gray said almost immediately that he would exercise his veto power to cut some expenditures in the budget.
Gray said that starting Thursday night "tonight" that he would review the 2012 budget "line item by item line with a focus on what is good for the taxpayer, with a focus on fiscal responsibility."
The mayor has the power to review the budget over the next 10 days - from Friday - to exercise its veto.The Council may override the mayor vetoes nine votes.
