Water Exercise Hand Paddles

The series focuses on the lower Wisconsin, between Portage and Wyalusing State Park, near the confluence of the Lower Wisconsin and Mississippi.

This weekend, paddlers propel kayaks and canoes will complete the last leg of the route and continue on Wisconsin Muscoda to Woodman Saturday and Woodman Wyalusing State Park on Sunday. The weekend will total 42 miles.

Uniting the past and present

The Legacy Walk is bound by Marquette and Joliet journey to the Fox and Wisconsin rivers and covers over 1,400 square miles in 15 counties.

Fitness experts are not surprised by the benefits of exercise of water and many people have found just the ticket to get in shape. Courses offered vary from traditional aerobics to bench stepping, yoga, tai chi, deep water running and kickboxing. Your body is supported in the water, so you do not hit the bottom of the pool as hard as you do with field exercises. Therefore, the impact on joints and muscles is reduced. If you have wounds, keep your joints slightly bent instead of straight. This helps distribute the pressure of the water throughout the member, rather than directly on the joint.

Just being in the water makes you exercise. Constant water pressure pushing against you as you move it more difficult to push you off to continue the movement. The exercise of the water's natural resistance training as there is a constant resistance to each move you make, creating stronger muscles. Water activities like water aerobics, bench stepping, deep water running and kickboxing are all great cardiovascular conditioning.
