So, last March, we moved house again to St Albans, Hertfordshire. The Daily Telegraph’s office and Pollyanna’s clinic are now just an hour away. The children are settled at a local church primary school, and on the face of it life has started to return to some sort of normality.
Except, of course, it hasn’t for Pollyanna. If you look at her, you would not be able to tell that she only has one leg. Her prosthetic limb is expertly crafted in a synthetic silicone skin, with lifelike toes, and little creases on the heel. She is just like any other six-year-old, throwing major tantrums when she wants to. Recently she sat on the end of her bed, her face contorted in rage, yelling at us: "You never listen to me. You always talk over me. You never show me any respect." But at least on that occasion she did not take off her leg and throw it at us, as she did on her first day at her new school.
